An elephant rampaged through a village in northern India today, killing at least seven people who tried to surround it, a wildlife official said.

At least seven people died after the elephant entered the village on the edge of the Jim Corbett National Park, said Srikant Chandola, the park’s chief wildlife officer. He gave no other details.
