Bhutto's widower 'may become MP'
Benazir Bhutto’s widower may seek election to Pakistan’s parliament in June, but denied speculation he wants to become prime minister.
Asif Ali Zardari took over Ms Bhutto’s party when she was assassinated in December. The party won February elections and leads a new coalition government.
Mr Zardari said in an interview with the BBC yesterday that he and his sister would register as candidates for the seat in southern Pakistan where voting has been postponed until June. He said “maybe” one of them will run.
Asked if he wanted to become prime minister, he said he did not think it was necessary for the party chairman to be prime minister, but said he could become premier if it became necessary.
