53 killed in double Iraq bomb attack

At least 53 people were killed and 130 injured when two bombs went off within minutes of each other in a crowded shopping district of Baghdad today, interior ministry and hospital officials said.

There were no claims of responsibility, but double bombings became the hallmark of attacks on civilians by al-Qaida during the worst of the violence in the Iraqi capital in 2006.
