Austria: Mother suspected of killing baby

A teenage prostitute is suspected of killing her new-born baby by throwing it out of a brothel window.

The incident emerged on Saturday when the woman, identified only as an 18-year-old Romanian, checked into a hospital in Salzburg, Austria with heavy bleeding, a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office said.

Doctors said she had recently given birth and alerted police because there was no sign of a child.

The woman said “something slid out of her” and that she then wrapped it in a towel and threw it out of the window, the spokeswoman said.

The baby boy, was later found outside a Salzburg brothel and a subsequent post mortem exam showed it was capable of surviving at the time of birth.

Reports said that the child fell 25ft.

The mother is undergoing psychiatric tests.
