Giant diamond goes for sale

The world’s largest top quality, brilliant-cut diamond ever put up for sale will be auctioned next month.

The white diamond weighing 84.37 carats, more than half an ounce, is expected to fetch between £6m (€8m) and £8m (€11m).

David Bennett from Sotheby’s said it was a “magnificent and unique stone.”

“In my 32-year career, this stone ranks among the most beautiful diamonds I have ever seen,” he said.

The diamond has received the highest possible grading. It is D-colour, or finest white, has flawless clarity and its cut, polish and symmetry have all been graded excellent.

The auction will take place in Geneva on November 14 and the diamond will first be exhibited in Hong Kong, Paris, New York, Rome, Los Angeles, London, Dubai and Bahrain.
