Forest fires force village evacuations in Spain
Forest fires advancing out of control on several fronts have forced the evacuation of a village in the eastern Spanish province of Castellon, officials said Thursday.
So far, wildfires have burned more than 4,500 acres in six municipalities around the province, said local government officer Vicente Rambla.
Winds have fanned the flames, leading officials to increase the number of firefighters to 690 – aided by 26 aircraft – by the end of Thursday, Rambla said.
All 125 residents of the village of Costur, in a wooded area 20 miles inland from coastal Benicasim, have been evacuated, Rambla said at a press conference.
