India: Three bombs discovered on train
Police discovered three bombs hidden inside a compartment of a stationary train at Kolkata's (formerly Calcutta) main station in India today.
“Our people were on a routine search of trains and found the bombs in one of the trains,” said Amarkanti Sarkar, Inspector General of Railway Police.
The bombs were taken to safe place by explosive experts from Howrah railway station. The train travels between Tarakeswar, a small town sacred to Hindus and Howrah station in Kolkata.
Tarakeshwar has an ancient temple dedicated to Siva, the Hindu god of destruction. Hundreds of passengers and pilgrims take the train for Tarakeshwar, about 50 miles west of Kolkata, capital of West Bengal state.
In January, an explosion ripped through two carriages of a passenger train near Belacoba railroad station, about 345 miles north of Calcutta, killing at least four people and injuring 50 others.
