Moves in Turkey to allow people to choose their President

Turkish people – instead of legislators – will be allowed to elect their president under a constitutional amendment approved by parliament.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan pushed for the changes after opposition legislators boycotted two parliamentary votes on his party’s nominee, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.
