Two killed in cargo train crash in Italy
A cargo train slammed into another in northern Italy this morning, killing two people, state railway company Ferrovie dello Stato said.
The accident happened shortly before 6am as the second cargo train was stopped at a red light on the border with Italy’s Trentino and Veneto regions, Ferrovie dello Stato said.
The victims were the first train’s two drivers, the railway company said.
The accident blocked the line and disrupted traffic, and a bus service was set up for commuters between the cities of Verona and Trento, and between Verona and Bolzano, Ferrovie dello Stato said.
The first two morning trains from Venice to Munich, Germany, and Milan to Munich were forced to change routes, while bus services were set up on lines between Verona and Trento for later trains.
