Lawyers for dozens of Guantanamo Bay detainees asked a US appeals court today to declare a key part of President George W. Bush’s new military tribunal law unconstitutional.

In written arguments filed with the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, the detainees’ lawyers challenge the military’s authority to arrest people overseas and detain them indefinitely without allowing them to use the US courts to contest their detention.
