Children removed from home with 68 pit bulls

Two children were removed from a home where shocked police found 68 pit bull terriers.

The dogs were bred at the house in Wichita, Kansas, for sale on the internet and most were indoors when officers found them on Monday, police Capt Randy Landen told The Wichita Eagle. It appeared that some of the animals had been fighting.

Police said the pit bulls were discovered when a state social worker went to check on the welfare of an 11-year-old boy and five-year-old girl living there.

The youngsters’ father insisted there were no children in the house and slammed the door, but officers who accompanied the social worker heard them and forced their way inside, according to the newspaper.

Police later obtained a search warrant and began removing the pit bulls. Both children were placed in protective custody and the dogs were taken to a shelter.

The father was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, obstructing the legal process and child endangerment, the paper reported.
