Violent street protests that hit Ivory Coast’s government-held south for days ended today, with taxis ferrying workers to their jobs and children in blue gingham uniforms heading to school.

There were no signs of the angry mobs that had besieged UN offices or illegal checkpoints manned by young men extorting bribes, as members of the pro-government group Young Patriots apparently heeded their leader’s calls to end anti-UN protests that began on Monday.
