A fire at a nursing home in Michigan killed two people this morning and at least 60 were rushed to hospitals, officials said.

The blaze was reported just after midnight at the 122-bed Mather Nursing Centre in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, about 360 miles north of Detroit.

Bell Memorial Hospital spokesman Rich Rossway said two of the 25 people taken there had died. Marquette General Hospital received 37 people from the nursing home, but conditions were not being released, said spokeswoman Mary Tippett.

State police said there was no immediate word on what caused the fire, which was concentrated in two rooms at the home.

“They’re still just trying to take care of the residents,” said State Police Sgt Brian Graustein.
