34 dead as passenger train derails in India
A passenger train derailed early today in southern India, crashing into a rain-swollen river and killing at least 34 people, police said.
Rescue workers pulled 14 bodies from seven carriages that had run off the rails in the town of Veligonda in Andhra Pradesh state. Another 20 bodies were trapped inside the train, Govind Singh, an inspector general of police, said at the accident site.
