Spain seeks extradition of Madrid bombing suspect
The Spanish government has agreed to ask Serbia to extradite a Moroccan considered a key suspect in last year’s terrorist attacks on the Madrid commuter rail network.
The decision was approved at a weekly Cabinet meeting today.
The next step is for the Spanish foreign ministry to send the paperwork to Serbia, where 22-year-old Abdelmajid Bouchar was arrested in June while living under a false name and identified on August 16 through Interpol and Spanish authorities.
Spanish authorities say he had close contacts with ringleaders of the massacre, which killed 191 people and wounded more than 1,500.
