Three held in Zimbabwe axe murder probe

Zimbabwean police have arrested three men wanted in connection with the murder of two Britons whose bodies were found earlier this month in a well.

Police also found an axe believed to have been used in the killings, which are thought to have taken place in September, said assistant police commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena.

Two of the suspects are brothers and were arrested in the Gokwe district of northern Zimbabwe, about 150 miles west of Harare where the murders took place.

The third suspect was held in Harare, said Bvudzijena.

The Britons – Kenny James Froud, aged 39, and Simon Buckley, aged 40 – were believed to have been killed during a robbery at their apartment in Harare’s exclusive suburb of Greendale.

The two had been missing for a month when police found their naked bodies weighed down by a block of cement in a 30-foot deep well.

Mr Froud had lived in Zimbabwe for many years.
