Floods kill nine in Dominican Republic
Torrential rains unleashed floods that sent rivers rushing over the banks, killing at least nine people and flooding hundreds of homes in the Dominican Republic.
At least six died on Sunday in Jimani, near the border with Haiti, when a river flooded part of the town.
Those deaths and two others on Sunday night in northern San Francisco de Macoris raised the death toll sharply as the government sought to deal with the aftermath of unusually fierce rainstorms.
In the neighbouring US territory of Puerto Rico, at least one man was missing and more than 100 people were staying in shelters due to flooding.
