Four soldiers hurt in Afghanistan blast

Up to four British soldiers have been injured, but none killed, in an explosion near a military base in Afghanistan, the British Ministry of Defence said today.

The attack on a vehicle carrying the British soldiers came at around 7am Irish time during a memorial ceremony in the Afghan capital Kabul.

The service was being held by international peacekeepers for a Canadian soldier killed in a suicide attack in the city yesterday.

Canadian Major General Andrew Leslie, deputy commander of the security force, said earlier that a British soldier had died in the explosion, but the MoD insisted there were no fatalities.

A spokesman said up to four British soldiers had been injured, but none had been killed.

He said it was not yet possible to say whether any of the soldiers had been seriously injured.
