Fiennes completes marathon challenge
Sir Ranulph Fiennes succeeded tonight in his record breaking challenge to run seven marathons in seven days.
The British explorer completed the New York marathon in five hours and 25 minutes.
Sir Ranulph and fellow adventurer Dr Michael Stroud had intended to complete the marathons on different continents but bad weather forced them to reschedule one planned for the Antarctic and run it in the Falkland Islands instead, which is classed as South America.
Sir Ranulph, 59, and Dr Stroud broke the world record by running the 26-miles every day for a week.
The other races were in Chile, Australia, Singapore, London and Egypt.
Sir Ranulph, who suffered a heart attack just four-and-a-half months ago, finished the challenge at around 3.30pm local time (8.30pm UK time).
