Eta suspect arrested in Holland

Dutch military police carrying out a Spanish arrest warrant detained a man who was trying to enter the Netherlands with a fake passport, officials said.

According to Dutch media reports he is a member of the Basque separatist group Eta, wanted in connection with a botched bombing in the Spanish town of Bilbao last year and the murder of a Spanish judge in 2001.

The man, a Spanish national, was arrested at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport Tuesday night during a stopover while trying to get to Venezuela from Spain, said military police spokeswoman Frederique Hermie.

Spanish authorities would soon request his extradition, she said.
