Milosevic's health delays tribunal again

The war crimes trial of Slobodan Milosevic at the UN tribunal in The Hague was delayed again today after the former Yugoslav president complained of a fever.

Judge Richard May said doctors would examine Milosevic later today. He said hearings would probably be cancelled tomorrow as well.

Milosevic is defending himself against 66 charges of war crimes allegedly committed during the violent break-up of the former Yugoslavia.

His trial has already been set back by 54 days because of illness.

He suffers from high blood pressure, and doctors have said he is at risk of a heart attack if he undergoes too much stress.

Court spokesman Jim Landale said Milosevic’s fever is apparently unrelated to his heart condition.

Last week, the court withdrew a May 16 deadline for prosecutors to finish presenting their case against Milosevic and granted them an extra 100 days, in part to make up for the missed hearing days.
