Three face charges after Tel Aviv suicide bomb

Three people are appearing in court on terrorism charges today after a Briton carried out a suicide bomb attack in Israel that killed three people.

Zahid Hussain Sharif, 46, and two women, Paveen Sharif, 35, and Tahari Tabassum, 27, all from Derby, are charged with terrorism offences.

The three were arrested at their homes in England in the days following the Tel Aviv bomb blast which Israeli authorities said was carried out by two British Muslims.

Asif Hanif, 21, was killed while the other got away and is still being hunted.

The three accused were charged last night under Section 38 of the British Terrorism Act 2000, as amended by the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001, which relates to failure to disclose information about acts of terrorism.

Paveen Sharif is also charged under Section 62 of the British Terrorism Act 2000, which relates to aiding, abetting, counselling and procuring acts of terrorism overseas.

All three are to appear at London’s Bow Street Magistrates Court amid tight security later today.

Zahid and Paveen Sharif were arrested in Derbyshire and Tabassum in Nottinghamshire, all on May 2.

Three other people, two men and a woman, arrested on May 2 and 3 in Derbyshire and London were released without charge.

All six were originally arrested by anti-terrorist officers following the suicide bomb attack on Mike’s Place, a pub in Tel Aviv, which killed three people on April 29.
