Chernobyl shelter could collapse, admit Ukrainians
There is a ”realistic possibility” that the shelter built to cover the Chernobyl reactor damaged in the world’s worst nuclear accident could collapse before fortification work is complete, Ukrainian officials acknowledged today.
“The sarcophagus does not meet mechanical and structural safety requirements. Thus, there is a danger that parts of the shelter could indeed collapse. It is a realistic possibility,” the plant said in a statement.
