Milosevic trial delayed due to illness

The war crimes trial of Slobodan Milosevic was today delayed again after the former Yugoslav president complained of feeling unwell.

A doctor at The Hague detention unit where Milosevic is held said the prisoner was suffering from a recurrence of high blood pressure and recommended a few days rest.

Judges of the UN tribunal in The Netherlands ordered a full cardiologist’s report for tomorrow before deciding whether to cancel further sessions, spokesman Jim Landale said.

Milosevic’s health problems have cost the trial at least 30 days of hearings so far since it began on February 12, 2002.

The 61-year-old former leader is defending himself against 66 counts of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide during three Balkan wars, in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo in the 1990s.
