One killed in Indonesia blasts
Bombs ripped through a McDonald’s restaurant and a car showroom in eastern Indonesia today, killing one and injuring two.
The bombs exploded an hour apart in the South Sulawesi capital of Makassar, about 1,000 miles east of the capital Jakarta.
The first blast inside the McDonald’s, located at a shopping mall, killed one and injured two. The second blast damaged four cars but caused no injuries.
Bomb blasts have become a regular feature of a running conflict between Muslims and Christians on Sulawesi island. Since 1999, nearly 2,000 have died in the fighting and and tens of thousands left homeless.
A peace deal was signed late last year but clashes have been on the rise in recent months. There have been a string of bus bombs and raids of villages by bands of armed men.
