Iraqi boat attacks Kuwaiti coastguard vessels
An Iraqi boat opened fire on two Kuwaiti coastguard vessels today, the emirate’s interior ministry said.
The incident took place near the tiny Kuwait island of Warba in the Gulf, an interior ministry statement said.
Nobody was wounded by the Iraqi fire but, during the firing, the two Kuwaiti boats collided and one crewman was injured, the statement added.
Ties between Kuwait and Iraq have been severed since the 1991 Gulf War that liberated the small oil-rich state from a seven-month Iraqi occupation.
The borders between the two countries are closed and monitored by the United Nations.
