Mother and toddler survive week lost in Oregon forest
A woman and her three-year-old son are recovering after spending seven nights lost in Oregon's forests.
Diane Annette Hoofard and her son Daniel Eastman of Coos Bay were rescued after they came across a logging crew.
The Sacramento Bee says they weren't far from the Golden and Silver Falls Natural Area where they went missing on July 4.
Ms Hoofard was bitten by a snake, climbed a tree to escape a cougar and fought off a family of raccoons who wanted her cheese.
Coos Bay police captain Eura Washburn says she did a "remarkable job" protecting her son who's in "a very good condition".
Ms Hoofard's sister Renee Norton says she "looked like something the cat drug in." She'd lost 24lbs, was dehydrated and needed hospital treatment for scratches and bites.
Police, the Coast Guard, and Search and Rescue Team members started a massive search on Monday when the pair were reported missing.
Ms Hoofard, who turned 40 while she was missing, said: "My biggest fear was having my baby die in my arms."
