A sixth person has died following the Potters Bar train crash near London.

The latest casualty figures show there were five deaths at the scene and one subsequently at hospital, the ambulance service said.

The three hospitals dealing with the injured say they are treating 24 people.

Spokesman Mark Purcell said Barnet General Hospital had received five women and two men aged between 21 and 67 suffering from crush injuries, compound fractures leg and chest wounds and cuts and bruises.

He said five people are waiting for theatre, one is under observation and one with head injuries has been transferred to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.

Four men and two women have been admitted to Chase Farm Hospital at Enfield, two of them with serious injuries.

Mr Purcell said a further seven men and four women were taken to the QEII hospital in Welwyn.

Seven were walking wounded and two have already been discharged, two suffered minor injuries and two were more seriously hurt.
