Argentina stops paying national debt

Argentina has suspended payments on its massive foreign debt today in a move to put pressure on foreign banks exposed to the troubled economy.

Interim President, Adolfo Rodriguez said that the Argentine people would have priority over debt payments as part of a radical shift in economic policy.

He has also ruled out devaluation and promised to introduce a parallel currency to inject liquidity alongside the Argentine peso.
