Taiwan’s outspoken vice president Annette Lu, has been awarded the 2001 world peace prize by the World Peace Corps Mission.

A former dissident leader, long time democracy activist and feminist, Lu was jailed in 1979 for five and a half years on sedition charges when Taiwan was governed by martial law.

A sharp critic of China, she was elected vice president last year.
