Businessman appeals against terror order

A Saudi Arabian alleged to have links with the al-Qaida network is challenge a British government order freezing his UK assets.

Businessman Yassin Kadi was named in a list of people and organisations with suspected terrorist connections.

Mr Kadi says he has never supported, financially or otherwise, any terrorist activities or any terrorist group or individual.

He says that as a result of his "wrongful and unlawful" inclusion on the list, he has suffered serious personal and professional prejudice and damage.

Mr Kadi, whose permanent home is in Jeddah, says that the Treasury has failed to provide any evidence to support his inclusion on the list.

His London solicitors Peter Carter-Ruck and Partners said: "Basic principles of fairness require that Mr Kadi be given some information to enable him to know the case against him and to respond.

"It was unlawful for HM Treasury to decline to provide any particulars about the basis of their decision.

"HM Treasury merely acted on the dictation of the US Treasury rather than on the basis of true exercise of any power they enjoyed."
