Taliban says US must stop threats to free aid workers
The Taliban says eight aid workers will be freed if the United States halts its propaganda campaign.
The foreign ministry wants a statement that the Afghan people will be safe.
The father of one worker says he is encouraged by the message.
The four Germans, two Americans and two Australians are charged with trying to convert Muslims to Christianity.
All are employees of the German-based Christian organisation Shelter Now International. Sixteen Afghan staff of the organisation were arrested.
In Islamabad, John Mercer, father of American aid worker Heather Mercer, says he is encouraged.
"The issue of the detainees is now out there, and as I heard the news they asked that the US cease any propaganda directed at bombing the Afghan people, that they could still continue their words against the Taliban," Mr Mercer said.
"I don't think the US has ever indicated they were going to harm the Afghan people. So this is very encouraging."
