Glider pilot hurt in crash

A pilot was injured in a glider crash at a small airfield today.

The accident happened at the South Wales Gliding Club, at Gwernesney, near Usk, south Wales.

The man’s injuries were believed to be serious, the fire service said.

Later, South Wales Gliding Club said in a statement that the pilot was injured in a winching accident during take off.

The injured person was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.

The statement said flying operations had been suspended at the club pending the arrival of the Civil Aviation Authority.
