Children hurt as branch rips through bus roof

More than 20 schoolchildren have been taken to hospital after their double-decker bus collided with a tree.

The top of the bus was taken off in the incident in a Cardiff suburb, said South Wales Police.

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Trust said 22 children were taken to hospital.

She said eight were treated for spinal injuries, one for head pains and the others for minor injuries.

It is believed the top of the bus clipped a branch in the accident in Clive Road, Canton.

The bus, registered to a company called EST, was taking children to Ysgol Plasmawr and Glan Taf schools in Cardiff.

Police said the road would be blocked for several hours.
