An alligator spotted in New York’s Central Park has been captured by a wildlife worker with a flashlight and a canoe who caught ther reptile bare-handed.

Mike Bailey, a 23-year-old alligator expert from the Seminole Tribe reservation’s Okalee Village near Hollywood, Florida, grabbed the 2ft creature.

The alligator - probably released by its owner when it became too big - was first sighted on Saturday along the shore of the Harlem Meer, a one-acre lake at the northern end of Central Park.

It was seen again by a TV crew on Wednesday night.
