Two trapped high in blazing block of flats
Seventy firefighters in England are trying to rescue two people trapped high in a block of flats after a large blaze engulfed a block of flats.
They were on the 13th floor of the 16-storey Arlington House in All Saints Avenue, Margate, Kent, when the fire broke out.
Four people have been rescued from the 13th floor and taken to the Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother Hospital in the town along with three firefighters injured while saving them.
The seven casualties are suffering from burns and the effects of smoke inhalation, a Kent Fire Service spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman said: "The rescue mission has been hampered by a gas leak, which is why 14 fire pumps are at the scene.
"We have been working with the gas provider to control the leak and 10 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have been trying to reach the people."
A helicopter from RAF Wattisham in Suffolk was also used to check if any people climbed on to the roof of the building.
The spokeswoman said: "The helicopter could be used to airlift the remaining people off the roof if this becomes easier than carrying them out."
She added that the cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
