Shrek soars to number one

Offbeat animated fairy tale Shrek has taken the US box office by storm with one of the biggest opening weekends of all time, it emerged today.

The film - which features the voices of Austin Powers star Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy - took £29.5m during its first three days on release.
