Game rangers shot more wild dogs today after officials rejected appeals from Aborigines to halt the killings, saying the lives of children were more important than wild animals.

Queensland state Premier Peter Beattie ordered the shootings on Fraser Island after wild dogs mauled a nine-year-old boy to death and injured his brother. Beattie rejected appeals from Aborigines and conservation groups to halt the killing of the dingoes on the popular tourist resort.
