Seven-year-old boy killed in railway bomb

A seven-year-old boy has been killed in an explosion at a railway station in the southern Thai city of Hat Yai.

More than two dozen others were wounded. Police believe the explosion was caused by a bomb, but no one has claimed responsibility.

The blast hit when the station was crowded with people waiting for a train to Bangkok, 590 miles to the north.

Police Lt. Col. Nopadol Peauksophon told Ruam Duay Chuay Kan radio station that a bomb might have been in luggage at the ticket sales windows.

A nurse at Hat Yai Hospital said 27 wounded people were sent there, including the boy who died.

Two people died in 1992 when a bomb exploded at the same station. Muslim separatists who have long conducted violent activities in the area were suspected.
