Florida drought reduces marijuana crop

Drug squad officers in Florida are thanking a drought for severely reducing the state's marijuana crop.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials say marijuana hauls are down by 30% to the lowest number in 20 years as marijuana plants need lots of water to flourish.

Authorities seized 39,219 marijuana plants worth $39.2m last year, which was the driest on record in Florida.

Agent Dave Broadway said: "If you think you're having trouble keeping your lawn alive, imagine trying to covertly water an entire marijuana plot. Mother Nature has played a big part in the scarcity of the domestic crop this year."
