Police reconstruct TV centre bomb events

Detectives have staged a reconstruction of the events leading up to the bomb attack at BBC Television Centre.

Camera crews, photographers and reporters watched as an identical red taxi was was driven along Wood Lane towards White City, west London, as it did last Saturday at about 10.40pm.

The taxi paused briefly outside the Television Centre before continuing to a nearby Esso garage where it did a U-turn and returned to the BBC HQ.

Anti-Terrorist Branch officers had previously been working on the theory that a lone terrorist, thought to be from the Real IRA, was responsible for the blast, which happened shortly after midnight on Sunday.

It is now known that two men were in the taxi when it was left outside the BBC, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Alan Fry said.

After getting out of the cab, it is thought the men headed off in the direction of Shepherds Bush.

Mr Fry said: "We urgently need to hear from anyone who saw the two men get out of the taxi or saw the taxi being driven along Wood Lane.

"Where did the two men go? Did they split up or did they stay together? Did they use public transport or get in a taxi?"

Detectives still need information about the movement of the taxi, which had a black vinyl type roof, a silver coloured steering wheel, an L plate on the back and a large advertisement for London restaurant Benihani on its side.
