Snowstorms batter the Middle East

Heavy snow and rainstorms have battered several Middle Eastern countries, closing ports, uprooting trees and disrupting power supplies.

The snowfall trapped hundreds of motorists on mountain roads in Lebanon and in the Jordanian desert.
