David Cameron wants to avoid ‘Tory drama’

David Cameron has hit out at Boris Johnson over the EU referendum row, but insisted he did not want the contest to turn into a “Tory psycho-drama”.
David Cameron wants to avoid ‘Tory drama’

The prime minister said the Tory former mayor was “wrong” to compare the EU to Hitler’s attempts to create a European superstate and claimed the Brexit campaigner had told friends he had “never been a leaver” before his decision to back the opposing side to Mr Cameron.

The Tory leader acknowledged that he could not wait for the referendum to be over so the Conservatives could “come back together again”.

In an interview with LBC News, Mr Cameron said he would take part in televised events ahead of the referendum but would not engage in “blue on blue” debates with fellow Tories.

He said: “I want to demonstrate that those arguing to stay in the European Union, reformed European Union, include the Labour Party, the Green Party, the Liberal Democrat Party, the trade union movement, most of British industry, the majority of small businesses.

"I want to prove the breadth of the campaign and I don’t want this to become a sort of Tory psycho-drama between me and Boris or me and Michael Gove.”
