The man, Moses Momodukamara, was due to attend his first ever game at Old Trafford only for Sunday’s final Premier League game of the season to be abandoned when a suspect package was found in the ground.

The plight of the Sierra Leonian fan was circulated among United fans, with Ian Stirling, vice-chair of the Manchester United Supports Trust, claiming Moses was “distraught” when the match was abandoned.

Mr Stirling tweeted: “Update on Moses whose first game at OT today. We’re paying for a change of flight date and he’s going to Wembley!”

Then over a photograph of the beaming United fan, Mr Stirling wrote: “Moses is a happy man. This is what being United is about.”

Sunday’s abandoned game has been rescheduled for tonight, although United’s chances of securing fourth place and a Champion’s League spot have vanished due to Manchester City’s draw with Swansea, meaning they have almost certainly taken fourth place, bar a 19-0 victory for United this evening. Some on Twitter have pointed out that bookies are offering odds on that scoreline of 1,000/1 — compared with the 5,000/1 odds at the start of the season on Leicester City winning the premier League.

Moses and other United fans will instead focus on Saturday’s FA Cup Final against Crystal Palace. ABUs might query whether, given the team’s season so far, he hasn’t already suffered enough...
