‘Gender stereotype’ furore over guide for children’s TV

An internal BBC guide for its children’s channel was at the centre of a Twitter storm last night after it described girls as “over emotional” and manipulative.

Twitter users said the guide, which said boys are “activity and task focused”, was guilty of gender stereotyping.

It says: “[Girls] have a tendency towards manipulation and can be over emotional. Girls have a keen interest in fashion and enjoy listening to popular music.
