The pair, who drew plaudits for their stylish appearance at the service yesterday, said it had been an honour to attend.

In a statement after the ceremony, the couple said: “Today’s ceremony was beautiful and heartfelt. Catherine looked wonderfully elegant and we were honoured to be part of such a special, historical day for our country.

“We wish Catherine and William much love and happiness for the future.”

Victoria chose to of her own designs for the big day.

The singer turned fashion guru was wearing an outfit from her latest elegant AW11 collection, which she unveiled at New York Fashion Week in February.

Victoria has been associated with numerous designers over the years. She famously took to the catwalk for Maria Grachvogel at London Fashion Week and has been a champion of Roberto Cavalli.

At her own wedding to football superstar David she favoured an ivory dress by Vera Wang.

But on this occasion the pregnant former Spice Girl settled on one of her designs, which have brought her great acclaim in recent years.

She coupled the navy draped “trapeze” dress with a hat by celebrated milliner Philip Treacy, perched above her forehead with her hair pulled tightly back into a neat ponytail.

And she collaborated with Christian Louboutin to customise a pair of the French designer’s desirable shoes.

David, who is also much- admired for his style, wore a Ralph Lauren tailed suit in a matching navy.

The star, whose hair was slick and sculpted, wore his OBE pinned to the jacket.

Like other guests, the Beckhams will be contributing to the couple’s wedding charity rather than offering a gift.
