Shackleton’s whisky returns

WHISKY that spent more than 100 years encased in the ice of the Antarctic returned home to Scotland yesterday.

Shackleton’s whisky returns

Three bottles of Mackinlays whisky, which were taken by Ernest Shackleton on his expedition to the South Pole in 1907, have been brought back for analysis.

The scotch was one of five cases dug up last year from underneath a hut used by the explorer during his two-year expedition. The spirits were thawed by museum officials, and will now be examined by the brand’s owner, Whyte & Mackay.
