Team news: O’Callaghan back in the middle for Cork

Kerry have stuck with the team that beat Armagh.

Colm O’Callaghan has been restored to the Cork midfield for Saturday’s All-Ireland SFC quarter-final with Mayo in Croke Park (4pm) having served his one-match ban.

The Éire Óg man was issued with the penalty following his sending off against Meath in the All-Ireland Round 1 win in Páirc Uí Rinn and missed the victory over Donegal where Seán Walsh filled the void.

O’Callaghan is the only change to the team that won in Ballybofey last Saturday week. Dara Sheedy remains in the team having recovered from injury to start the last day.

On the bench, fit-again pair Seán Brady and David Buckley come in for Tomás O’Mahony and Darragh Clifford. Out of the panel is Cathail O’Mahony.

For Mayo, Stephen Coen replaces the injured Paddy Durcan, while Fergal Boland and Rory Brickenden have been added to the bench with the injured Diarmuid O’Connor dropping out.

Céin D’Arcy will wear No22 in Sunday’s All-Ireland quarter-final against Dublin as Galway retire the No 10 jersey as a mark of respect to the late Paul Clancy.

Shane McGrath for Fionn McDonagh is the one change from the team that began the All-Ireland Round 2B win over Westmeath in Salthill the weekend before last.

As Clancy’s funeral takes place on Friday, Galway GAA explained: “As a mark of respect to the late Paul Clancy, R.I.P the number 10 jersey proudly worn by Paul with distinction as a player will not be used in Sunday’s match. Our thoughts are with Johanna, Ellen, Finn and the Clancy family, Paul’s friends, and his former teammates as they gather today to bid their farewell to him. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”

Elsewhere, Tyrone have named an unchanged side for their quarter-final with Kerry, with no place for Darragh Canavan in their 26. Though their stand-by list will be revealed later. 

Kerry are also unchanged from the side that began last weekend’s victory over Armagh.

The only change to the panel is Micheál Burns’ return from a two-game suspension. The Dr Crokes man comes in for Tomás Kennedy.

Tom O’Sullivan has yet to recover from his long-standing quad problem to take his place in the matchday 26. Seán O’Shea and Gavin White are again set to be held in reserve.

Of the team that began last year’s semi-final win over Tyrone, there are 12 survivors – the entire outfield defence save for White, the midfield pair and all but O’Shea in the forward line. The three changes are Shane Murphy, Diarmuid O’Connor and Paul Geaney for Shane Ryan, White and O’Shea.

Dublin captain Con O’Callaghan has been named to start against Galway in Sunday’s quarter-final despite retiring with what appeared to be a hamstring problem in the win over Donegal last weekend O’Callaghan has been plagued with hamstring problem across this season and beyond but he and Paddy Small, who also retired early, have been included in the team.

Nathan Doran suffered ankle damage and Eoin Kennedy has been selected to take his place in defence. Alex Gavin is included among the substitutes.
