PM’S farewell

SHE was the granddaughter he never met but yesterday her parents made sure she was there to say goodbye.

British Prime Minister David Cameron’s father Ian died on holiday in France last week at the age of 77.

The prime minister’s wife Samantha had given birth to baby Florence a few days earlier and he never got to see his fourth grandchild. Yesterday Florence was carried by Cameron, accompanied by his wife, to the funeral at St Barnabas Church in Peasemore, Berkshire. Cameron’s attendance at the private ceremony meant he had to miss Pope Benedict’s address to MPs at Westminster yesterday. He will meet the pontiff for talks today. Ian Cameron, described by his son as “an amazing man”, died on Wednesday last week after suffering a stroke.
