Woman can’t remember biting off boyfriend’s tongue

A WOMAN accused of biting off her boyfriend’s tongue after asking him to kiss her told a court yesterday she had “no recollection” of attacking him.

Woman can’t remember biting off boyfriend’s tongue

Tracy Davies is accused of deliberately biting down on the front third of Mark Coghill’s tongue on October 10 last year.

She then opened her mouth to show him his severed flesh and spat the tongue out on the carpet, it is alleged.

But Davies told a jury at Newcastle Crown Court the first she knew of the incident was when her then-boyfriend came into the living room holding his tongue.

She said they had started arguing as they celebrated Coghill’s 45th birthday in his flat, and went into separate rooms, drinking a bottle of vodka each.

Davies told the jury: “We were both very drunk at that stage. I went to the other room, and he stayed in the bathroom, we were both drinking vodka.

“The next thing I remember was Mark coming in to where I was with his tongue in his hand saying I did it.

“I asked Mark if he wanted an ambulance but he kept on saying ‘no’ because of this divorce he was going through. He didn’t want any more complications.”

Davies eventually called an ambulance for Coghill, when the bleeding wouldn’t stop.

The ambulance crew alerted police, who came to the scene, in St George’s Terrace, in the Jesmond area of Newcastle.

The jury was told that officers were greeted by Davies, holding the severed tongue in a plastic bag, who told them: “We had a domestic. I bit his tongue off. Here it is.”

But when she gave evidence, Davies said she said she was responsible for the injury because Coghill had convinced her she had bitten through his tongue.

She said Coghill’s account of the evening was “not true” but added that she would never know what had happened.

The trial was adjourned until Monday.
